APM Terminals invested over $75 million in Apapa terminal modernization and expansion, including the delivery of four reconditioned Panamax gantry cranes, doubling the facility’s terminal handling capacity which lead to the growth of vessel calls and monthly container traffic .

Improved productivity after the hand over has enabled APM Terminals Apapa to eliminate container vessel waiting times, resulting in shipping lines ending congestion surcharges. The savings to the Nigerian economy has amounted to USD 200 million per year since APM Terminals assumed operational control o the facility. APM Terminals also operates the West Africa Container Terminal at the Nigerian Port of Onne with the aim of taking a lead at the Lekki project

APM Terminals has been a major part of the development of the container shipping industry, and it is a role and responsibility they do not take lightly. Originating as Maersk Line’s terminal operating arm, APM Terminals was established as an independent division within the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group in 2001, moving its corporate offices from Copenhagen to The Hague in 2004, and reporting results as a separate business entity within the Group as of 2008.

The company’s history in terminal operations began more than half a century ago with a general cargo facility at the Port of New York in 1958. Its heritage dates back through Sea-Land and the very first international container operations when the Sea-Land Fairland was loaded with 236 containers bound for Rotterdam at Port Elizabeth. Since then, containerization and steadily growing maritime trade has played an increasingly important role in the world economy and APM Terminals is proud to have been at the vanguard of the industry, providing the essential port infrastructure required for the handling of all seaborne cargoes and ongoing global economic development.

APM Terminal’s headoffice in Nigeria is at APM Terminals Apapa,Apapa Lagos,Nigeria.
