Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike
Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (born 24 August 1967) is a Nigerian lawyer, politician and Governor of Nigeria's oil-rich Rivers State. He is from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State, Nigeria. He is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party. Wike was appointed minister of state for education on 14 July 2011 but resigned before finishing his term to campaign for Governor of Rivers State. In 2014, he won the Rivers State People's Democratic Party primary and chose former Secretary to the State Government Ipalibo Banigo as his running mate for Deputy Governor.
He defeated Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the April 11 Gubernatorial Polls to emerge as Governor-elect.
Mr Wike won the Governorship election of April 11, defeating Mr Dakuku Peterside, with a total of 1,029,102 votes. Mr Peterside polled 124,896 votes. After Mr Wike won the election, there were controversies over who would conduct the swearing-in ceremony.
On May 29, 2015 Nyesom Wike was sworn in as the Governor of Rivers State
