It began with the birth of Sakichi Toyoda in 1867 and his invention of Toyoda Model G Automatic Loom in 1924.1937 saw the establishment of Toyota Motors co.Ltd and the story has been that of success ever since.

The Toyota brand was first introduced to Nigeria in 1965 by R. T. Briscoe, then its exclusive distributor. In 1976, the Federal Government of Nigeria cancelled exclusive distributorship and appointed four additional distributors in Nigeria; Baloni Nigeria Limited, Bao Motors, Elizade Nigeria Limited, and Nelphinco Nigeria Limited.
In 1996, Toyota Motors Corporation decided to revert to sole distributorship option which led to Toyota Nigeria Limited becoming the exclusive distributor of the Toyota Brand in Nigeria.Elizade Nigeria Limited is the core investor in Toyota Nigeria Limited with 84% equity holding while Sumitomo corporation Japan maintains 26%.
Their car fleet includes Toyota Yaris, Corolla, Camry, Avalon, Siena, Tacoma, Tundra, Rav4, Venza, Highlander 4Runner, Prius. etc.
