Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso

Governor Rabiu KwankwasoGov. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who is currently the Executive Governor of Kano State elected (2011) under the platform of the PDP was born on 21st October, 1956 at Kwankwaso town in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State. At the early age of four (4) he was introduced to Islamic education and started Western Education at Kwankwaso Primary School at the age of 6 (1962 – 1969). He then attended Wudil Craft School (1970 – 1972).
He obtained both his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic; from there he went to United Kingdom for further education in Middlesex Polytechnic (1982 – 1983), Loughborough University of Technology (1983 – 1985) and Nottingham University (1987 – 1991). Intermittently, he attended some certificate courses at Derby National Water Council (1982), Derby Water Industrial Training (1985) and London Industrial Training (1985) and bags a Doctor of Science (Hons) University of Maiduguri.
He started his professional career with Kano State Government as an artisan craftsman, technician and within the spate of 17 years he rose through the cadre to the rank of Principal Engineer. In 1992 he left the State's civil service and vied for election into the Federal House of Representatives and after his victory at the polls he was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. In 1994 he was elected as a Delegate to the Constitutional Conference, and in 1999 he got Elected Governor of Kano State (1999 – 2003). He was then appointed Minister of Defense, Federal Republic of Nigeria (2003 – 2006), Special Adviser to the President on Darfur, Somalia (2006 -2007), and Representative of the North-West Zone in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) (2009 - 2010).
Gov. Kwankwaso is a man on a mission to transform Kano into a modern State that will be economically viable with state of the art infrastructure. This mission is what led to the initiation of various programmes and policies aimed at providing an enabling environment as well as reducing poverty by creating employment opportunities for the teeming populace.
