Former Governor Rotimi Ameachi
Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is a Nigerian politician, who became Governor of Rivers State in June 2007. He was previously Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly between1999 and 2007. Governor Amechi was successfully re-elected for a second term as River State governor on the 26th of April 2011.
Amaechi was born in Ubima, in Ikwere local government area of Rivers state, and is an alumnus of the University of Port Harcourt. His wife, Judith Amaechi is active in promoting improvements to the status of women and children, and is sponsor of the Empowerment Support Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), that provides practical support and advice, particularly for the most disadvantaged.
In the April 2007 Rivers State elections, Celestine Omehia of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was at first declared governor, but his election was later annulled and Chibuike Amaechi, also of the PDP, was declared governor.
